You can extend the life of your pH electrode in the following ways:
- Storage: The pH probe must be kept hydrated. Long periods of dry storage will impair the sensitivity of the probe. Allowing the probe to dry out can also lead to build-up and clogging of the tip. Storing in MA9015 Storage Solution or pH Calibration Buffers will help address both of these issues. Do not store in tap water or distilled water! This will impair the sensitivity of the probe. The best way to store the probe is with the probe cap filled with storage solution or calibration buffer and the cap tightened to prevent leakage. It is also recommended that the electrode be stored upright to further reduce the potential for leakage.
- Cleaning: Build-up on the probe tip from mineral salts in the nutrient solution or organic material can affect sensitivity and clog it. We recommend regularly soaking your electrode in MA9016 cleaning solution .
- Calibration: The glass tip of the pH probe becomes less sensitive over time, so make sure to calibrate regularly to keep your meter accurate. Also, calibrate after cleaning or long periods of storage.
