CANNA CalMag Agent – Calcium and Magnesium

CANNA CALMAG AGENT is a special concentrate for buffering soft water. It can be used with all types of growing media.

Directions for use:

1. Shake well before use!
2. Fill the nutrient reservoir with water (20–22°C).
3. Add 0.1–1.0 ml CALMAG to 1 litre of water until you reach an EC of 0.4 mS/cm. Add your base nutrients and additives to this water.

What is your water quality?

• Water properties in Bulgaria vary across regions. CANNA TERRA and COCO nutrients are most compatible with normal water, usually with an electrical conductivity (EC) of 0.4–0.5.

According to conductivity levels, water is broadly divided into four different types:

1) soft water, 2) normal water, 3) hard water and 4) poor-quality water

What is the difference between soft, hard and/or poor-quality water, and what can you do about it?

1. Soft water has an electrical conductivity level of EC < 0.4 mS/cm. With CANNA CALMAG AGENT, you can raise your water’s electrical conductivity to 0.4 mS/cm.
2. Normal water has an electrical conductivity level between 0.4 and 0.5 mS/cm. It contains calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate to stabilise pH. CANNA TERRA and COCO base nutrients are designed to work best with this type of water.
3. Hard water (EC > 0.5 mS/cm) contains more calcium and magnesium than plants can absorb. When growing plants, the best way to treat this type of water is to use a reverse-osmosis filter, then mix the hard water with reverse-osmosis water until you reach an electrical conductivity (EC) level of 0.4 mS/cm.
4. Poor-quality water (EC>0.5 mS/cm) contains mainly sodium and chloride. These two elements can block the uptake of beneficial nutrients and become toxic to your plants. A reverse-osmosis filter can remove both elements. Simply preparing a mix of poor-quality water and reverse-osmosis water with an EC of 0.4 mS/cm will provide enough bicarbonates to stabilise pH, but calcium and magnesium levels will be too low. Prepare a mix of osmosis and tap water until you reach an EC of 0.2 mS/cm, then add CANNA CALMAG AGENT until you reach an EC of 0.4 mS/cm.
